Barter History/BarterSolutions

"I am bewildered that everyone does not Barter, I grew up with it as a way of life.”
James E “Buddy” Hooper, Founder & CEO of Barter Solutions.

Buddy Hooper has moved Barter to the next level, and it will never be the same again.

Why Barter?
There are many reasons to Barter, some follows:
To Barter something you have no use for, for some thing you do have a use for.
To Barter something you have in excess (merchandise or time) for something you need.
To enhance your quality of life (the only reason you are in business).
To use as a marketing tool to increase sales, and increase purchasing power.
 To move into new markets.

One on one Trade = the exchange of what you have for something you want.
Commerce = interchange of goods or commodities.
Money = a medium of exchange.
Barter Dollar = a medium of exchange used by Barter Systems.

Direct (One-On-One) Trade
Trade, the exchange of what you have for something you want is an age-old concept. For example, I have a garden where I grow many kinds of vegetables. I grow more than I eat. You breed cattle and you have more cattle than you can eat. I trade you my vegetables for your cattle. We traded something we could not use for something we could use.

The Principle of Barter
The Principle of Barter is best defined by the following example. I own a jewelry store and I purchase a watch wholesale for $50.00 (a medium of exchange) and sell them retail for $100.00. I need my automobile repaired and it will cost me $100.00. Instead of paying cash, I barter, or trade the watch for the repair, I receive $100.00 in auto repair, but it only costs me the $50.00 I paid for the watch. I saved $50.00 on this transaction, or made $50.00 profit. I also increased my sales.

Modern Barter
Commerce has evolved through five stages: (1) primitive Barter "trade"(2) coins (3) paper money (4) checks and credit cards (5) the modern Barter System.

"The real object of the game is not money; it is the playing of the game itself." Adam Smith, The Money Game. Marvin "Mac" McConnell, the founder of the modern Barter System, is a "true player" in Smith's phrase. To have given up the ownership of a thriving California savings and loan operation in 1960 to gamble on the revolutionary idea of a Barter System he had to be. Mac had plenty of experience with trading one-on-one with his past business ventures and founded the Barter System based on the concept of trade. He studied Accounting, Statistics, and Market Research at Washington University in St. Louis, later earning his Master's Degree in Econometrics, the Statistical Application of Economics, at the prestigious University of Chicago. Thanks to Mac, who is affectionately known as the "grandfather of modern Barter," a new industry was born.

How does a modern Barter System differ from a one-on-one trade?
A Barter System uses a medium of exchange called the Barter Dollar. A medium of exchange is any article or substance accepted as a measure of value exchangeable for merchandise or service. Each culture, geographical area, etc. establishes its medium of exchange. The United States uses the U.S. Dollar, Japan the Yen, Mexico the Peso, a Barter System the Barter Dollar. Each medium of exchange is limited to where it is accepted; the Barter Dollar is no different.

Since what we call a Barter System or Trade Exchange does not do a one on one trade then it must not be either of these. As pointed out above they both use a medium of exchange just as the other monetary systems.

When is a Barter System a Barter System? When is a Trade Exchange a Trade Exchange? The answer to both those questions is NEVER. Then why are they called Barter Systems or Trade exchanges? Because when Marvin "Mac" McConnell, first started the industry in 1960 that is what he called it, and up until now no one has been creative and forward thinking enough to change it.

Excerpt from an article by Susan Groenwald, a pioneer of the Barter industry in issue 62, June 2004, of Barter News.

“Until the primary problems with commercial barter are fixed, the industry will not make a significant impact. If we cannot define our industry adequately, how can we expect the business community to understand what benefit we can provide? Our use of the term “Barter” to describe the proprietary currency that commercial trade exchange manages has created great confusion in the business community. I remain optimistic that someone somewhere will figure out how to solve the problems, or come up with a new approach that makes the problems I have identified moot.

Even Susan in addressing the problem of using the word “Barter,” uses the words “Barter”, “Trade” and “Exchange” in the same sentence.

We are sure Susan will be excited to learn that Buddy Hooper has come up with the new approach she was speaking of, and Barter will never be the same again.

By calling them a Barter System or Trade Exchange it creates so much confusion in the business sector that it has a great limiting factor on the growth of the industry, and it makes it impossible to mass-market.

We have eliminated this confusion by calling them what they are, a Private Monetary System, as in
OrangeBee Private Monetary System, Inc,©™ The Easy To Get, Easy To Spend, New Color Of Money.©™

Now what was once known as a Barter System or Trade Exchange can be mass-marketed as a Private Monetary System. Please remember A Rose by another name would still smell as sweet. And in this case it smells even sweeter.
